Frequently Asked Questions

What can i expect at my group glassblowing experience?

Arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to learn about health and safety in the glass studio, see glass samples and choose your colors, and get acquainted with the studio. Your own private instructor will lead you through the process of making the item you have chosen to make in hot glass, ranging from 1000-2100 degrees Fahrenheit. You will get to manipulate the material in its raw form from start to finish, including adding color and shaping the glass with specialized tools into a paperweight, flower, cup, bowl and more, depending on what you have pre-selected.

What is the youngest age allowed to blow glass at lagc?

We allow ages 8 and up to participate in our one-on-one glassblowing lessons. The child must be able to listen and follow instructions and must be accompanied by an adult.

Where can I park?

There is plenty of street parking on the blocks surrounding the studio, please come a few minutes early to find parking.

Should I bring anything?

Yes, please. Bring a water bottle and you may want to bring a few snacks if you will be attending a longer class or lesson.

What Should I wear?

Please wear natural fiber clothes (cotton, etc.) and closed toe sneakers (no heels please). For example, jeans and a t-shirt as opposed to yoga pants and a tank top (polyester). If you have one, please bring a long sleeved cotton shirt if you think your arms may be sensitive to heat.

I hear that glass has to cool slowly? What does that mean?

When working with hot glass, the temperatures are over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and class must cool slowly overnight to allow the stress to be relieved in the glass.

When can I pick up my art work?

Your work will be ready for you to pick up or have shipped the approximately the next business day. You can confirm the specifics during your class with your instructor. If you cannot pick up your work in person, you may make arrangements for it to be shipped.
